COLGATE 26 CLASS ASSOCIATION
CLASS RULES - February 15, 2006
Section A-General
A.1 Type of Class Rules
A1.1 These are Closed Class Rules
A.2 Language
A.2.1 Official Language is English and in case of dispute over translation English shall prevail.
A.2.2 The word “shall” is mandatory and the word “may” is permissive.
A.2.3 The word “alteration” is builder related changes to maintain one design philosophy in equipment, hardware and material at the time of construction.
A.3 Authority
A.3.1 The Authority of the Class is the Colgate 26 Class Association (C26CA) in all matters concerning these Class Rules.
A.3.2 The C26CA and Class Technical Committee will work with the builder and Colgate Management, Inc. on any and all alterations
and Class Rules that may need to be modified in the future.
A.3.3 Held for Future development.
.3.4 Colgate Management, Inc. shall administer the C26CA and the builder in order to maintain the one design philosophy and shall have sole ownership and control of C26 plugs and molds.
A.4 One-design Philosophy
A.4.1 An owner shall agree to the one-design philosophy of the class and shall do nothing during the course of ownership to violate this principle.
A.4.2 An owner shall be an active member of the C26CA.
A.5 Crew
A.5.1 The crew while racing shall be a minimum of three in C26 sanctioned regattas and number of crew shall not change during the regatta. Local fleets may modify the crew limit.
A.6 Interpretation of C26 Class Rules:
shall be made in accordance with ISAF Regulations. At a regatta a Jury may make interpretations of the Class Rules as required but they are only valid during the regatta. The organizing authority shall, as soon as practical after the event, inform the C26CA of such interpretation(s).
A.7 Identification
A.7.1 Sail numbers shall be issued by C26CA and shall be sequential.
A.7.2 The sail number shall match the hull number unless permission is granted by the Organizing Authority of the regatta.
A.7.3 A Membership Sticker shall be applied to the starboard side of the transom just under the Hull Identification Number.
B Measurement
B.1 Measurement points - Hull and Keel
A- 1 Aft point on keel as determined by C26CA template.
A- 2 Forward point on keel as determined by C26CA template.
A- 3 Point on keel determined by measurement from A- 2.
B.2 Measurement points on deck
FDP- Centerline of Forestay attachment hole in bow fitting.
B.3 Measurement reference point on Mast shall be bottom either side at extruded scribe mark.
C Templates
The C26CA shall maintain templates for keel, hull, and deck as needed and shall provide the builder with these instruments to assure conformity with Class Rules at time of construction.
D Weights
D.1 At a National Championship, other event, or time as determined by the C26CA a racing weight will be checked at a minimum of 2600 lbs. This shall include mast, boom, spinnaker pole, standing rigging, running rigging, empty cooler and empty head of size supplied by factory, outboard motor OR a weight of 30lbs.minimum affixed to the mast support. Corrector weights as needed shall be secured at 1/3 and 2/3 LOA.
E Hull and Deck
E.1 Hull and Deck shapes, dimensions, and hardware placement templates shall conform to drawings by Jim Taylor and as administered by Colgate Management, Inc.
E.2 As these are Closed Rules the layout of hardware and fittings shall not be altered except as specified under A 2.3 and A 3.2.
E.3 Hardware may be replaced with same or similar fittings.
E.4 Existing fittings may be allowed for other uses such as the life rail base as a barber haul attachment point.
E.5 No holes through deck are allowed except as permitted by these Class Rules.
E.6 Halyards and sheets material optional. Halyards shall be single-part.
E.7 Alterations to the mainsail outhaul may be made. This supercedes E.5.
E.8 Held for Future development.
F Construction
F.1 Hull and deck shall be constructed of fiberglass as per the layup schedule asprovided by the designer and shall be on file with the Class Association.
F.2 Rudder and keel shall conform to the original design, as fabricated by the builder and as detailed by plans on file with the C26CA. Minor fairing of the surface finish is allowed.
F.3 Mast, boom, and spinnaker pole shall be made of aluminum only by an approved builder of the Class approved sections as provided by the spar builder at time of construction.
F.4 Standing rigging shall conform to designer specifications on file with the C26CA
G Racing Sails
Sails are to be measured in accordance with ISAF rules.
Mainsail:
P = 29.75
E = 11.17
Mainsail foot shall be loose-footed.
Mainsail shall have at least one set of reef points.
Mainsail shall be single ply, woven polyester.
Mainsail shall have four battens.
Mainsail window optional.
Class insignia as on current sails provided with new boats, between 15” and 16” in diameter.
Minimum weight: 6 oz. / sailmaker’s yd or 256 gr/sq. meter
MGT = 2.45’ / 788 mm
MGU = 4.24’ / 1293 mm
MGM = 7.26’ / 2212 mm
MGL = 10.05’ / 3064 mm
Jib (roller furling on Harken 00 foil - #6 luff tapes):
Jib to be single ply, woven polyester.
Jib window optional.
UV strip optional.
No jib battens.
Maximum dimensions:
Luff: 26.8’ / 7979 mm
LP: 8.07’ / 2458 mm
Head width: 39mm
Minimum weight: 6oz. or 256 gr/sq. meter
Spinnaker:
SL: 28’ / 8534 mm
SMG: 14.8’ / 4510 mm
SMW: 14.8’ / 4510 mm
Minimum weight (“Generic Weight”): .5 oz nylon / 39 gr/sq. meter

H Safety Equipment
Safety equipment shall conform to the Country requirements in effect where the C26 is sailed, but the following is mandatory :
Personal buoyancy meeting Country requirements for each crew member, an 8 pound anchor with 150 feet of 3/8” line, 15 feet of 1/4” chain, bucket, 5’ paddle and throwable flotation device.
I Approved Optional Equipment includes but not restricted to:
Cooking stove
Safe heating or cooling equipment
GPS for other than C26CA sanctioned events
Light air sheets
AM/FM radio, CD, TV or other entertainment devices
Dock and mooring lines
Cushions
Digital read-out or electronic compass and timer
Additional hardware for racing under other rules such as PHRF or MORC, but such hardware shall not be used for sanctioned C26 class events.
J Miscellaneous Prohibited equipment but not restricted to per Closed Rules:

Running backstays
Quick release devices on shrouds
